Submission Process

What Needs to be Submitted?

MUSC SCRO approval must be obtained prior to using human pluripotent stem cell lines.

For keeping human embryonic stem cell lines in storage only (not actively in use), please also fill out a SCRO application.

What is the Submission Process?

If you wish to fill out a registration form, the SCRO registration process is conducted on RedCap.

For questions, please contact SCRO Program Manager Dr. Michael Smith at 843-792-6535 or smitmic@musc.edu.

As part of the SCRO review process, the investigator will also require to:

Storage of Human Embryonic Stem Cell Lines

All human embryonic stem cell lines, irrespective of source, or origin, that are not actively used in research but held in storage, need to be registered with the SCRO.

Submission Deadlines

Applications must be submitted prior to the initiation of work involving human pluripotent stem cells. The SCRO meets as needed. Submissions should be done in a timely manner as needed to permit:

  • Submission of grant proposals
  • Release of funds for approved proposals
  • Release of approvals from other regulatory committees (IACUC, IRB, and/or IBC ) requiring SCRO approval for their applications involving use of human PSCs.

Periodic (Continuing) Reviews

Unless renewed by Continuing Review, an approved initial application is active for one year. For all approved applications (registrations), the SCRO determine that the research risk is of significant magnitude meriting review more frequently than on an annual basis. Prior to a registration’s expiration date, the SCRO staff will send the Principal Investigator a timely reminder of approval expiration.

Eligibility

Only MUSC faculty are eligible to submit SCRO applications. Post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and visiting faculty must have the faculty member with whom they are working submit applications covering their work.
