Overview

Beginning in January 2023, NIH funding applications for all new and competing proposals/renewals that generate scientific data must include a data management and sharing plan (DMSP). Join this virtual seminar planned for November 10, 2022 at 10 a.m. to hear an overview of the new policy, learn the basic elements of a DMSP, and discover a free resource called DMPTool that will help you build your plan. The Office of Research Development & the MUSC Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), Region 2 co-sponsored the seminar.

Seminar Speaker

NIH Data Sharing Policy Resources

  1. Get an overview of the 2023 NIH Data Sharing policy and the 2023 NIH Data Management and Sharing policy as well as how they apply to NIH funded research and data. Learn more.
  2. On-demand Data Management and Sharing Policy webinars from the Network of the National Library of Medicine. Tune-in.
  3. The DMPTool is a free, open-source, online application that helps researchers create data management plans (DMPs). Many funding agencies now require these plans as part of the grant proposal submission process. The DMPTool provides a click-through wizard for creating a DMP that complies with funder requirements. It also has direct links to funder websites, help text for answering questions and data management best practices resources.
  4. The NIH Office of Science Policy (OSP) and the Office of Extramural Research (OER) hosted a two-part webinar on August 11, 2022 and September 22, 2022 focused on the new DMS policy which goes into effect on January 25, 2023. In these recordings, you will learn about DMS policy expectations, the applicability of the policy, how to prepare a Data Management and Sharing Plan, and considerations for sharing data responsibly. Access slide decks and additional resources.
  5. Data Management and Sharing Plan Basics: Preparing for the new NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy Seminar Presentation-November 10, 2022.

Writing, Budgeting & Sample Plans

  • Writing learn what NIH expects your Data Management & Sharing plan to address
  • Budget include eligible costs in your Proposal Budget
  • Sample Plans examples of how a DMS plan could be completed in different contexts, conforming to the elements described by NIH.

[All MUSC Data Management Sharing Plans should include this statement:  The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at the Medical University of South Carolina that will be administering this award has created a data management and sharing plan compliance system as part of their process for submitting the annual NIH progress report. That Office is collecting information related to the number of research participants that are deposited each reporting year.]
