Health Disparities

Health disparities are defined as the inequalities that occur in the provision of health care and access to health care across different racial, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. MUSC researchers strive to improve access to health care in our state’s rural communities to fight chronic health problems such as diabetes. South Carolina has one of the highest diabetes rates in the country. Sharing information plays a vital role in solving the health disparity challenges the state faces with heart disease, stroke, cancer and mental illness.
