The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected progress in research sectors and has raised concerns about the career trajectories of early-stage investigators. In response to these concerns, the NIH released a notice detailing their approach to support early career scientists affected by the pandemic. Recipients in their last year of NIH Fellowship (F) and NIH Career Development (K) awards who have been impacted by COVID-19 may request either no-cost or funded extensions. These requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis contingent upon the availability of funds.

See NIH Notice NOT-OD-21-052 for additional information.
