RESIDENT RESEARCH

Eligibility and Submission

  • All residents who have previously obtained a clinical doctoral degree are eligible to apply. ·
  • Funding is limited to $2,000 and is to be used for the purchase of expendable supplies only.
  • The original plus five (5) copies of the application must be submitted to the Office of Research Administration. ·
  • Applications will be returned if page limitations are exceeded.
  • Pages must be numbered consecutively throughout the grant, starting with the Face Page as page one. ·

Guidelines and Format

Applications that do not follow guidelines will be returned.

  1. Resident Research Face Page - Form Page.
  2. Resident Research Budget Page - Form Page. Expendable supplies only. Maximum request - $2,000. Justification is required. Requests for salary, secretarial support, equipment and travel will be disallowed.
  3. Research Plan - (limit 5 pages) A short scientific protocol is to be submitted by the applicant. The pages should be numbered consecutively beginning with page 3. The following format is required:
    1. Background: What is the basis for developing the hypothesis? This section should be complete enough to indicate that the trainee has thoroughly reviewed the literature pertaining to the topic of the proposal.
    2. Hypothesis: What is the question to be tested? Be explicit.
    3. Significance: What is the importance of the hypothesis to be tested?
    4. Methods and Statistical Analysis: How is the hypothesis to be tested? Be specific. What parts of the study will be performed by the trainee? Who will assist the trainee? What parts of the study will be performed by a technician? What problems are anticipated?
    5. Facilities: Where will the work be performed and what equipment is available for the trainee's use?

    1. tatement of applicant's (trainee) career goals.
    2. Curriculum Vitae of applicant.
  6. Faculty Sponsor (Mentor) Requirements
    1. A specific statement or letter from the sponsor which includes the following:
      1. The amount of time the trainee will be provided to perform the project
      2. A detailed description of the exact role of the trainee in the project.
      3. Statement or listing of previous trainees trained by the sponsor and their current positions
    2. Current and pending research support of the faculty sponsor.
    3. A complete curriculum vitae of the faculty sponsor.
