FUNDING MECHANISMS

The University Research Committee and its subcommittees provide support to strengthen the research capabilities of the faculty and provide research training for residents interested in pursuing an academic career. The different categories use specific applications, guidelines, and deadlines. With the exception of the Research Research application, all applicants must hold a faculty rank at MUSC.

Until further notice, applications for New Investigators, Pilot Projects and Central Facilities funding are not being accepted.

INTERIM FUNDING
It is not uncommon for productive and successful investigators to resubmit competing renewal applications of existing NIH, NSF or other federal grants. This often requires them to scale back their efforts at a time when they are likely to be most productive. This program is available for any investigator with a grant carrying full indirect cost support (43%) whose competing continuation application was not funded. Awards up to $50,000 may be used up to two years. Deadlines are set to correspond with the NIH submission cycle. Those investigators not eligible under these criteria may still apply using the institutional application and deadlines. Guidelines for submission are available for download on this web site.

RESIDENT RESEARCH
For residents interested in pursuing an academic career, small grants of $2,000 or less are provided to help the applicant gain skills in writing a research protocol and give experience in the review and award process. Guidelines and forms are available for download on this web site.
