Export Controls Since 9/11 the US government has increased its focus on Export Controls, particularly on enforcement at universities. One US university was recently fined by the US Treasury Department for cosponsoring a conference in an embargoed country. The US government has also become much more concerned about foreign students at universities in this country learning how to use controlled equipment. In case you missed the ORSP Research Roundtable on March 5, 2005, attached is a copy of the PowerPoint presentation on Export Controls. It is a brief review of the basic issues surrounding Export Controls. Please take a few minutes to view the PowerPoint slides. If you want more detailed information on each slide you can switch to the View-Notes Page mode. If your department plans to submit a proposal for which the answer to one of the following three questions is Yes, please alert your ORSP Grants Consultant so that we can search for potential export control issues that need to be addressed.
