AAMC and FASEB object to proposed survey instrument to measure misconduct in research In a Nov.12
letter to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Association
of American Medical Collegs (AAMC) and the Federation of American Societies
for Experimental Biology (FASEB) expressed disapproval of a survey instrument
proposed by the Office of Research Integrity (ORI). The survey purportedly
measures misconduct in biomedical research. The AAMC and FASEB worry
that its "expansive approach to the topic is very unlikely to provide
accurate or useful data." The two organizations expressed concern
that many of the survey's questions deviate from the definition of misconduct
as stated in the Federal Research Misconduct Policy. In addition, the
organizations worry that many survey questions are ambiguous and subjective.
