SCPHA issues call for student abstracts in public health for 2007 conference The South Carolina Public Health Association is encouraging health professional students and trainees across the state to submit programmatic and research abstracts for presentation during the Contributed Papers Session of the 2007 annual meeting. The deadline for submitting abstracts is February 1, 2007.This year's SCPHA conference theme is Where in the World is Public Health? The conference will be held in Myrtle Beach, SC, May 22-25, 2007. The purpose of the Contributed Papers session is to share results of original research or program implementation important to the field of public health. Presenters will gain valuable presentation experience and have an opportunity to network with public health professionals from diverse fields across the Southeast. Fourteen student abstracts will be chosen to participate in either a poster session or oral presentation, and the highest scoring abstracts will receive cash awards. In the past, SCPHA has had limited student participation and thus hopes to broaden participation to include students at universities and colleges that may not have participated in the past. Examples of areas of interest include health education, epidemiology, public health nursing, gerontology, health administration, environmental health, and exercise science. Abstracts should be in MS Word format, double-spaced, no longer than 300 words. They should be submitted by e-mail to either of the co-chairs of the Contributed Papers Session—Sarah Gareau at gareau@gmail.com or Lori James at lljames@gwm.sc.edu. Questions about the process or conference may be addressed to them as well.
