INTRAMURAL FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PILOT PROJECTS

Cancer—HCC/ACS Institutional Research Grant Projects
The Hollings Cancer Center has issued the 2008 Request for Applications for the American Cancer-Institutional Research Grant.  Awards are up to $30,000/year and can be competitively renewed for a second year. Letters of intent are due Nov. 17.  Eligible investigators are junior faculty who have not yet received national peer-reviewed funding as independent principal investigators (career development support such as K awards are permitted). Health Disparities—Deadline Extended to Oct. 31 for CHDR Pilot Project Program
The Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR) has extended the deadline for pilot project in health disparities until Oct. 31.  The CHDR Pilot Project Program is a one-year program that provides support for four pilot projects (up to $5,000 per year per project) for graduate or post-graduate students, fellows, or faculty at MUSC. Pilot funds may not be used for salary support. Research ideas from clinical, basic science, nursing, or health services research are welcome. Graduate students, post-graduate students, and fellows should identify a faculty mentor for their projects. Only projects that focus on racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, and/or gender disparities in health will be considered.

Applications must be submitted by Oct. 31, 2007 and must include: (1) a research proposal (maximum of 3 pages) containing a statement of the problem (including specific aims and background/rationale), methods to be used, anticipated results, and discussion of how planned efforts will lead to future funding; (2) a biographical sketch for the investigator on the standard PHS 398 form; (3) a 1-page letter of support from a primary mentor for graduate students, postgraduate students, and fellows; and (4) budget and justification on the standard PHS 398 form.
