Pilot project proposals on women's issues due September 30

The Women’s Research Center (WRC) at MUSC has $30,000 to fund pilot projects related to gender or women's issues. Co-directed by Kathleen T. Brady, MD, PhD, and Carrie Randall, PhD, the WRC got going in October 2002 with five-year award of approximately $4.4 million from the National Institutes of Health to promote gender-based translational research. The center grant supports four interdisciplinary research components. The goal of the WRC is to create a single, regional, unified, interdisciplinary program designed to attract trainees and new faculty into women's health research at MUSC.

The purpose of the pilot funding is to provide support for the collection of preliminary data, with the ultimate goal of supporting an R01 application. The project may be a clinical or basic science study.

All submissions will be reviewed and funded on or about November 1. The project period is limited to one year. The deadline for receipt of proposals is 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Guidelines call for a brief, 3-5 page description of the pilot project using the following format: (a) statement of the problem; (b) primary hypothesis; (c) methods; and (d) significance. Proposals must include a budget (not to exceed $30,000) and a brief budget justification.
