NIH tests process for recognizing more than one PI on a proposal

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) are conducting a pilot on the option to include more than one Principal Investigator (PI) on a grant application. Only specific Funding Opportunity Announcements qualify for the multiple PI option. The programs participating in this pilot are listed on the Multiple PI website. As outlined in the May 11 NIH Guide, applicants should not use the multiple PI option unless they are responding to one of the programs included in the pilot.

For proposals that appropriately include the multiple PI option, all participating PIs need to be registered in the NIH Commons prior to submission. Instructions and links for registration are provided. Applicants electing to use the multiple PI option must include a Leadership Plan as Section I of the Research Plan, and should include the PHS 398 Form Page 1- continued. Questions about the Multiple PI pilot can be sent to multi_PI@mail.nih.gov.
