NIH eliminates more paper in favor of notification via eRA Commons

Effective June 1, 2006, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) discontinued the practice of sending notices on paper to let grantees know where their proposals have been assigned for funding consideration. This move is another step toward NIH’s goal of a paperless process for all aspects of grant application, review and management. In September 2005, NIH announced elimination of paper transmittal Peer Review Outcome Letters (containing score/percentile data) and Summary Statements (see NOT-OD-05-075). As of May 10, 2006, all applications submitted to NIH must include the eRA Commons User name for all Project Directors/Principal Investigators (PD/PIs). This applies to paper applications as well as electronic applications.

NOTE: This change in business process does not apply to applications for the Agency for HealthCare Research and Quality or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
