South Carolina Bioengineering Summit—June 14-15, 2007

The South Carolina Bioengineering Alliance, a structured effort among Clemson University, MUSC and the University of South Carolina, will host a Bioengineering Summit on June 14 and 15, 2007 at MUSC. The Summit is aimed at initiating the next phase of bioengineering in South Carolina, based on bridging disciplines, distances, and organizations across the state in order to advance quality of life.

The Bioengineering Summit program offers important networking opportunities for faculty, students, and academic administrators interested in multi-disciplinary biomedical research and education. Topics include: National and State perspectives on bioengineering, funding opportunities, critical healthcare issues for bioengineering, novel bioengineering research approaches, commercialization and tech transfer, and career development opportunities.

Program organizers are currently soliciting poster displays and one-page abstracts on bioengineering, multi-disciplinary, and collaborative research with biomedical applications. The deadline for submitting abstract is May 25. Research projects should reflect the bridging theme of the conference and focus on advancing understanding of disease processes or improving healthcare. Posters will be displayed on June 14, and abstracts will be published on the Internet and in a conference book. Instructions for submitting abstracts are posted on the Summit web site at http://scba.musc.edu/summit/abstracts.htm.

There is no charge to attend the conference but advance registration is required. The total number of attendees will be limited to 175 on a first-come basis due to space restriction. Early registration is strongly encouraged. For more information, contact Ms. Radhika Easwaran, Logistics Coordinator, at easwaran@musc.edu or visit the Summit web site at http://scba.musc.edu/summit/.
