ORD launches myPeerReview, a searchable database of faculty peer reviewer experience

The Office of Research Development has developed a peer reviewer database as an on-line searchable resource for MUSC researchers and trainees, especially new investigators. In order to initiate the database the office garnered information from biographical sketches about faculty service on both grant and editorial review panels at the national level to initiate the database.

Types of reviews range from ongoing service on a standing study section or editorial board to special emphasis panels and ad hoc reviews. Agencies and sponsors of interest include: National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, National Library of Medicine, Health Services and Resources Administration, Department of Defense, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Juvenile Diabetes Association International, National Science Foundation, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and Department of Energy. Some examples of journal review service include: Journal of Neuroscience Research, The Journal of Nutrition, Behavior Modification, and the American Journal of Epidemiology.

ORD staff have compiled available information in a searchable database with a user-friendly query interface and placed it on the MUSC Research Website at http://research.musc.edu/myPeerReview.html. It is accessible to anyone with an MUSC NetID username and password.

This new resource is designed to help MUSC researchers who wish to submit to a specific study section, sponsor or journal to investigate quickly and easily whether colleague(s) at MUSC have prior experience with the entity of interest and therefore might provide pre-submittal advice.

ORD invites all members of the MUSC research community to help improve and expand the information contained in the database by adding, updating or correcting their information. Once logged onto the database, users can make additions and changes “on the fly.”

The critical factor in the usefulness of myPeerReview is your input!  ORD welcomes your comments and suggestions about this new service as well as other ORD activities and offerings. Please take a trial spin with myPeerReview – especially please correct, update and add your own data or let us know and we will enter it for you.  Email links from the inside the database facilitate feedback, or you can call or email Janet Johnson at 792-0872 or johnsjn@musc.edu.
