Joint
symposium on diabetes will be held at NIH May 13-14
The National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)
and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will co-sponsor a national
symposium on diabetes, "Targeting Safe and Effective Prevention
and Treatment," May 13-14 on the campus of the National Institutes
of Health in Bethesda, MD. The aims of the joint symposium are to define
the current state of the prevention, treatment and management of this
widespread chronic disease, and identify and discuss therapeutic gaps
and hurdles that impede the safe and effective prevention and treatment
of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The meeting is part of NIDDK's current
initiative, "From Bench to Bedside, Research on Type 1 Diabetes
and Its Complications," and the FDA's initiative to encourage
development of therapeutic approaches in areas such s diabetes, lupus,
and cancer.
