New
uniform consent forms for obtaining tissues from living patients and
tissues from autopsy
MUSC
recently has consolidated the informed consent documents for the collection
of human tissue specimens for research purposes into two forms. The
consolidation of these consent forms is a major improvement on previous
policies that will streamline the process for investigators, and will
facilitate compliance activities.
The
forms can be found under "autopsy" and "excess surgical/diagnostic"
at the following URL:http://research.musc.edu/ori/irb/infcons.htm. Guidelines for the
requirements for human research protection internet-based
training remain exactly the same as outlined in broadcast memoranda
dated October 4, 2001 and November 5, 2001 which can be accessed at
the following URL: http://research.musc.edu/ori/irb/home.htm#training.
Questions
regarding these policies can be addressed to the Office of Research
Integrity
(2-4148). Questions regarding aspects specific to tissue banking can
be directed to Dr. Hazen-Martin (2-2906).
Please note that special policies regarding tissue banking apply
at the VA. Inquiries about VA policies should be directed to the VA
Research and Development Service (789-6700).
