Research Tools Development Grants Program

The Invitrogen Corporation has announced a new program: Research Tools Development Grants Program. The Research Tools Development Grants Program is intended to allow investigators to develop innovative tools for use in life science research, including discovery, development, and commercialization. Invitrogen is providing the Research Tools Development Grants on a quarterly basis; each quarter they will request grant proposals for a specific field of interest. For the first quarter of 2002, Invitrogen is seeking grant applications in the general area of Enzymes for Molecular and Cell Biology, including topics such as labeling technologies, gene reporter systems, gene cloning, gene expression and gene amplification. Funding can range from $25,000 to $100,000, generally for a 1-year duration. Total funding of this program is $5 million per year. Future quarterly fields of interest for 2002 include: functional analysis; separations and purification; and amplification, labeling and quantitation.

Grant applicants are requested to first submit a non-confidential one-paragraph summary of the Grant Proposal (i.e., a Preproposal). Applicants whose pre-proposals are accepted will then be asked to submit a Grant Proposal. Grant Proposals will only be accepted through execution of a Confidential Disclosure Agreement. Invitrogen will then provide this award in the form of a Sponsored Research Agreement.

Prior to submission to Invitrogen, all documents for this program need to be reviewed by Dr. Ken Roozen in the Foundation for Research Development as well as the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
