Charleston will host International Conference on Communication in Healthcare (ICCH) From October 9th to 12th this fall, Charleston will be the site of the International Conference on Communication in Healthcare (ICCH). The event’s sponsors include the American Academy on Communication in Healthcare (AACH), European Association on Communication in Healthcare (EACH), Northwestern University’s Center for Communication and Medicine (CCM), and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center and Medical University of South Carolina (RHJ VAMC/MUSC). This major international conference occurs annually, alternating between the USA and European venues. In 2004 it was in Bruges, Belgium (hosted by the University of Bruges), in 2005 it was in Chicago (hosted by Northwestern University), and in 2006 it was in Basel, Switzerland (hosted by Basel University). In 2007 it will be in historic Charleston, SC. The event is the largest gathering of researchers, educators and administrators from around the globe to focus on improving the patient-provider relationship and communication in healthcare. The meeting targets all healthcare groups, such as nurses, physicians, dietitians, social workers, and PhD researchers, as well as patients and families. The multi-disciplinary nature of conference delegates encourages the integration of perspectives, theory, practice, and innovation. Abstracts for oral presentations, workshops and posters should be submitted between January 15 and March 15, 2007, using the online abstract submission site available through the AACH Web site. This will be a great opportunity for faculty and students to interact with researchers and educators from around the world in the field of communication. For more information, please contact Shakaib Rehman, MD (Chair, Planning Committee), Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center/ Medical University of South Carolina (shakaib.rehman@va.gov or 789-6411).
