ORD offers scientific editing service

The Office of Research Development (ORD) can now offer assistance with medical and scientific editing and writing for manuscripts or journal articles. Both native and non-native English speakers may discover that manuscript proofreading, editing, and rewriting services can be helpful in preparing articles for publication in biomedical journals.

All editing, rewriting, and writing will be done by a board-certified editor with a doctoral degree in pharmacology/toxicology. These manuscript services include proofreading, editing, and rewriting, and formatting for particular journals.

This confidential service is free to MUSC faculty and staff. Proofreading, editing, and rewriting can be done electronically or by hand on a double-spaced hard copy of the manuscript. See below for a more complete description of what specific services are available. To access these services, please contact Dr. Jennifer Schnellmann at 792-0867 or schnellj@musc.edu.
  • Proofreading/copyediting—correcting spelling, capitalization, grammar, and punctuation; ensuring consistency of tense and style; and revising inaccurate/vague terms.
  • Substantive editing and re-writing—reorganizing text and rewriting text as necessary to improve clarity, logic, and flow.
  • Formatting—formatting the abstract, text, tables, figures, legends, and references according to the journal's Instructions to Authors; providing those instructions to the author with the returned, edited manuscript.
  • Preparation—writing a cover letter to the journal's editor; making previously submitted and reviewed manuscript changes based on reviewer/editor comments.
