NIH issues new policy on graduate student compensation

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) have issued a new policy on graduate student compensation using funds from NIH research grants and cooperative agreements. Under this new policy, the maximum amount awarded by the NIH for the support of a graduate student supported by a research grant or a cooperative agreement is tied to the zero level National Service Award (NRSA) stipend in effect at the time the grant award is issued. The compensation of graduates must be reasonable; compensation includes salary or wages, fringe benefits, and tuition reimbursement.
