DIVISION OF LABORATORY ANIMAL RESOURCES (DLAR) M. Michael Swindle, D.V.M., Director Administration: The Director, DLAR answers directly to the Provost, who is the institutional official responsible for compliance with animal issues. The Department of Comparative Medicine in the College of Medicine is the academic home for the veterinarians in DLAR. Complete information on DLAR is posted on our web site. Accreditation: The centralized program is fully accredited by the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, International (AAALAC). It has approved assurance statements and registrations on file with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Services: DLAR provides care for all laboratory animals at MUSC. All animals must be obtained through their office from approved sources. All animal protocols and laboratories have to be approved in advance of performing research by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC); 843-792-4148; website - research.musc.edu/iacuc.htm, which is a separate office from DLAR. |
